Eyelid Reconstruction – Blepharoplasty and Ptosis Repair

Eyelid damage can happen as a result of an injury, tumor, skin cancer, or past eye surgery. Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery performed to help improve the appearance of the eyelids. It addresses concerns associated with puffy eyelids, bags under the eyes, excess skin and fine wrinkles.

Eyelid ptosis, or the drooping of the eyelids, can make a person appear “tired,” cause brow ache and even obscure vision. Eyelid reconstruction to correct ptosis is a common procedure performed in an outpatient facility.

Eyelid Lesions

Eyelid lesions appear as growths (either pigmented or non-pigmented) that form on the surface of the eyelid. Some eyelid lesions can be removed in the office, while others may require a biopsy and surgical removal at a surgical center. While most eyelid lesions are benign and associated with the aging process, it is important to seek treatment to rule out any form of disease.

Ectropion and Entropion Repair

Entropion and ectropion are common eyelid disorders that affect the upper and lower eyelids. Entropion occurs when the muscles and tendons of the eyelid weaken causing the eyelid to turn inward. This creates friction against the cornea and can result in excess tearing, irritation, ulcer formation, and scarring of the cornea. Ectropion is the opposite; the lower eyelid turns outward, which can lead to dry eye syndrome.

Ectropion and entropion are most often age-related eyelid disorders, and treatment is dependent on the severity of the disorder. Permanent ectropion and entropion repair requires a relatively minor surgery, where a small part of the eyelid is removed to help tighten the delicate tendons and muscles in eye area.

Tear Duct Surgery

Tear duct obstructions may develop from facial trauma, infection, inflammation, or as a side effect of certain medications. These obstructions can cause excess tearing or even promote the accumulation of bacteria that can lead to an infection. Tear duct surgery, also known as dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR), involves the creation of a new opening for the tear duct to drain into the nose.

Facial Fillers

Facial fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, are used to restore volume to areas such as the lips, cheeks, and around the nose. Facial fillers are a cost-effective, minimally invasive way to smooth wrinkles, soften creases, and enhance the natural contours of the face without plastic surgery.
