Dr. Patrick Higgins attended medical school at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in Newark, New Jersey. He subsequently completed an internship at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey and then returned to UMDNJ, where he completed his ophthalmology residency at the New Jersey Eye Institute. Dr. Higgins is double fellowship trained, having completed a one-year medical retina fellowship at New York University in New York City, followed by a second surgical retina fellowship at the Touro Eye Infirmary in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Dr. Higgins has been a practicing vitreous-retinal surgeon specializing in medical and surgical disease in northern New Jersey for over 15 years and was the founder of the Retina Center of New Jersey. He has extensive experience in clinical research and has participated in over sixty clinical trials dating back to 1998. Among those were clinical trials for many of the pharmaceuticals that are currently being used as standard of care in the retina/ophthalmology field today.
Dr. Higgins was born and raised in Nutley, New Jersey where he resided with his family for 33 years. He now lives in Ridgewood, NJ with his four children and parents. Dr. Higgins is excited to continue to provide his community with outstanding medical care.
